betta fish care

More or less all of us know the Betta fish and have thought of keeping this fish at home. But do we know how to take care of betta fish? so today our topic is about betta fish care.

Betta fish is a very popular aquarium fish. Although the fish is known as betta fish, the real name or scientific name of this fish is Siamese fighting fish. Betta fish are native to various Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and India.

Betta fish come in a variety of colours and Betta fish are very small in size and very beautiful in appearance. It is also possible to keep this fish in a very small water tank due to its small size.

Betta fish live in freshwater and this fish is very easy to keep at home and low maintenance so betta fish is a very popular aquarium fish.

Betta fish care :

We have tried to highlight some special points in discussing Betta fish care such as,

Tank size for betta fish:

Betta fish can live in a very small space but if we give them a bigger space they are very happy. Not only that, a slightly larger water tank can be very nicely decorated and looks good too.

We can keep betta fish in such an aquarium or fish tank that holds at least 5 gallons of water.

That’s because we have to use a water heater and water filter in the fish tank, not only that but keeping the betta fish in such a place with a minimum of 5 gallons of water, the fish will be much healthier and live longer.

However, betta fish should not be kept in very small water containers.

Right Water for Betta Fish:

Water is a very important factor in discussing betta fish care though betta fish are very hardy. However, this fish needs clear water very much. We can use conditioned water or process water for betta fish. But we have to keep in mind that the ideal pH for betta fish is 7. My own personal opinion is that no pond water or poor tap water should be used for fish tanks.

Best filter for betta fish tank:

There are special reasons for installing filters in our betta fish tanks. A large amount of particles accumulate in the fish tank, which later transforms into ammonia.

The function of the filter is to drain the ammonia from the tank and convert it to nitrite and then nitrate through the nitrogen cycle. Although Nitrate is not very harmful to our fish, but nitrite and ammonia are very harmful to fish.

Although in discussion regarding the care of Betta fish a very good and high quality filter is very important for our betta fish tank. So we should clean our filter at least once every week and change 20% water of our fish tank at least once every 15 days.

Heater for betta fish tank:

It is very important to control the water temperature of the Betta fish tank at all times because the fish’s immune system depends on the temperature of the water. A sudden drop in temperature or a sudden increase in temperature can make our betta fish sick or even die. The ideal temperature for our betta fish is 75° to 85° F.

Plant for betta fish tank :

Plants are a very important element for a betta fish tank. Plants help regulate the amount of oxygen in the betta fish tank. Not only this, the plant helps to control ammonia and nitrite levels in the fish tank. Plants play a big role in the care of betta fish.

Fish tank plants are also very beautiful to look at so we should keep some plants in our betta fish tank. As a beginner there are several plants we can use in our fish tank, such as Pogostemon stellatus, Vallisneria, Sword Plant, Water Sprite, Java Fern, etc.

Pellets for betta fish:

We can easily and cheaply find betta fish pellets at pet stores or online. We should feed our fish two pellets twice a day. If we feed our betta fish too much pellet, the excess food helps to create ammonia in the water.

Although it is clearly written on each pallet packet how many pallets we can use for one betta fish.

5 important points before buying betta fish:

  • Before bringing the betta fish home, the tank should be completely prepared for the fish.
  • Before buying betta fish from the store, make sure that the fish is healthy.
  • Betta fish should be brought home from the pet store very carefully.

After bringing the betta fish home, leave the packet of fish with the tank water for 30 minutes so that the temperature of the fish packet and the fish tank become equal.

Then release the fish into the tank. But one thing we must remember is that a fish tank looks as good as it is important to take care of it and be responsible for the fish.

Behaviour of Betta Fish:

  • Betta fish are highly territorial so a tank should always have a Betta fish regardless of whether it is female or male.
  • If we keep two or more betta fish in a tank, they will fight each other and get injured. So it is always said to keep a betta fish in a tank.

Note: Before keeping our betta fish at home it is very important to know about the characteristic features of this fish.
